Today I found all kinds of neat zoo news from around the country. Oh, I got so excited I forgot to tell you that Zebee is still off ‘on assignment’, so I am playing roving reporter today. Lets’ get right to it.

First we have The Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa working out a new program to get teens involved. They have a ‘zoo school’ and lots more. Cool!

Next we have some baby news. First, baby meerkats, how cute are they. I don’t know about you, but, I find them adorable.

Sorry I’ve been ‘off the web’ for the past week. My boss Joy had me doing some work on upcoming events. I also was roving the zoo world for news. Here are a few links to some zoo news I came across. Enjoy this weeks finds, oh, and I’ll fill you in on the upcoming events when we meet again.

Tiger Enrichment?!?

Wow! Rebekha and Sally are getting very brave! They are talking about going into the tiger exhibit to do some new type of enrichment idea. I wonder what it will be. Let's listen in and find out.

"So, Sally, are you with me on this one?"

"Sure Rebekha. Sounds interesting."

"Oh, it will be a piece of cake. I'll make sure that Tilly and Zeus are in the barn when we go into their exhibit."

"Okay, that sounds much better. So, what scents are we going to try out? Perfumes or animal scents?"

"I think we'll start with perfume. We need to be sure we spray it right at the level that Zeus would typically 'mark' the tree with his scent. This way, he will notice it and studies show that animals will rub up against the area."

"I'm curious to see how Zeus and Tilly react to this. What perfume are you going to use? A 'manly' scent or a woman's perfume?"

"Let's try one of each and see which one they like best. Okay, are you ready? Let's go!"

The Vet is Coming!

What are Mori and Lito talking about? Let’s see.

“Hey Lito, I overheard Sally and Rebekha talking about the Vet. They were saying that she’s coming to give me my annual physical exam.”

“What’s that?”

“From what Rebekha said, the Vet will come and check my teeth, hoofs, and take blood samples, what ever that means. I don’t think I’m going to like it very much.”

“Oh, so that’s what the Vet was doing when she came to visit a few months ago. The keepers helped her make my mom go to sleep so they could check her out. It didn’t look like it hurt or anything. She was just sleepy for a while.”

“Well, I guess that won’t be so bad. I think if they make me go to sleep I’ll be much happier. I don’t like loud noises or sudden movements. How did they make her go to sleep?”

“They gave her a shot with a dart because they couldn’t get that close to her. She didn’t remember anything when she woke up.”

“Good. I guess I better go, looks like they are coming now. See you later Lito.”

“Okay Mori. See you when you wake up.”

I think it’s good that the zoo Vet comes and checks us all out each year. They really do take good care of us here at the 'V Zoo'.
