7 random facts about . . .who?

Good morning everyone in Bloggerville! Zebee here. Well, last week was fun with Jennifer Gladen. We al look forward to her visiting us again when A Star in the Night published.

So, one of the comments left last week by Lori Calabrese tagged us to give 7 random facts about us.

Since several of us wanted to participate, we decided to each give seven random facts.

Here’s mine
1 I like to listen in when humans walk by, never know what you might hear.
2 I think (but don’t let the others know) that zebras are the most beautiful animals in the world.
3 I love to travel the world zoos.
4 I like to play hide and seek.
5 I have a great smile, don’t you think?
6 I wonder what this food humans eat called pizza is like.
7 I don’t like getting wet.

Okay, my turn. Hi I’m Mori.
1 I like the fact that my friends here at the ‘V Zoo’ gave me a surprise party.
2 Even though I’m at the end of the zoo, I get lots of visitors.
3 I can lick my ears with my tongue! Bet you can’t do that.
4 If you could touch me, I’d feel like velvet.
5 I like to play hide and seek too. I guess Zebee and I are good at it because of our stripes.
6 I get scared at night. It’s dark.
7 Zebee wonders what pizza’s like, I wonder about the stuff you call ice cream. Is it good?

our boss Joy
1 I live on a sailboat.
2 I love to snorkel and take pictures underwater.
3 I don’t like the cold, maybe for a day. Give me warm sunshine any day.
4 I speak English and Spanish and can understand French and Italian.
5 I have two sisters, one older and one younger. We are all totally different.
6 I have a daughter, son, step daughter and two grand children.
7 I like watching Spanish ‘telenovelas’. (Spanish soap operas/mini series)

Hey Zebee, do the rest of us get a turn?

Some other time, I promise. We’ve got to go for now. Our boss Joy is going to be on Suzanne Lieurance’s “Book Bites for Kids” today at 3 pm Eastern time. Hope all of you people out there in Bloggerville will tune in and listen to her. She’s going to talk about “Zooprise Party / Fiesta Zoorpresa”. You can catch the show at
Blog Talk Radio

By for now. Thursday we’re going to read about a professor somebody or other. See you then.

Book Launch and TV interview all in the same day!

Hi everyone, Zebee here. Boy did my boss Joy have a big day yesterday. In the morning she had her book launch party at the library and then in the afternoon the show she taped was on TV. I’ll let her tell you as we listen in while she tells Rebekha all about it.

So, mom, how did the launch party go?

Fantastic! Let’s see, we had about 35 to 40 kids there and about equal amount of adults.

That’s really good. Did any of the press show up?

Not during the event, but one photographer showed up after it was over and took pictures of the books. I think I’m going to write and submit an article with pictures to the other newspapers and see if any of them pick it up.

So, did the kids have fun? Tell me how the whole thing went.

Okay. When they first arrived we gave them coloring pages and a small box of crayons. That kept them busy until the show started. When María Chuzema arrived, she was carrying her bird umbrella and the kids all knew who she was. She immediately went into a story about how the zebra got his stripes. That got the kids settled down. She then introduced the book and we took turns reading, her in Spanish and me in English.

Sounds like she really helped out. Did she do anything else?

Yes. After we finished reading the story and everyone applauded, she put on some music and sang and danced with everyone. We even did the chicken dance!

What did she do next?

This was really funny. She went into a monologue skit with lots of tongue twisters and made up words from her show on TV. The kids got all involved and then she started pulling the parents into it and had them act out the other characters in her one woman skit. It was very funny.

Did you sell any books?

I waited until her show was over and then she had me come to the front of the room where I announced the snacks of juice and animal crackers for the children and showed the parents where they could come and buy the books. I sold 23 sets of the book and activity book as well as 5 of the teacher guides.

Wow! That’s great mom! I really wish I could have been there.

Me too honey, but you can watch this slide show and feel like you were right there.

So, tell me, did the TV interview air today like it was supposed to?

Yes, and much to my surprise, they used all the footage they shot with me. The craft she made that was supposed to be part of the show, didn’t make it in at all.

Do you have a copy of it?

Not yet, but María gave me the name and phone number of the person to call as ask for a copy. When I get it I’ll make a copy and send it off to you.

Thanks mom. It sounds like you had a great day. With all this and the reviews we’re getting we should do well.

I agree. Now, let’s go over to the bongo exhibit. I was thinking. . .

Sounds like it was a big success! I can’t wait to tell Mori, Lito, Elvis and the rest of the gang here at the ‘V Zoo’. I’ll fill you all in next week. See you Sunday with more zoo news. Lots of Halloween activities to share as well as other things. Bye for now.

Book Launch tomorrow! Another great book review!

Hello everyone, Zebee here. Well, tomorrow is the big day, we launch the book to the media and then on Friday the book is available for sale! My boss Joy is running around in circles trying to get everything done. For tomorrow, here’s what she’s got planned:

At the Caguas Public Library, La Biblioteca Pública Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos at 10 AM the program starts. TV children show personality, María Chuzema will be reading the book in Spanish and Joy will be reading it in English. There are at least 75 people who are going to be there at last count. We have juice, animals crackers, coloring pages, crayons and goodie bags for all the children. The books will be on sale at a very nice discount. The local TV and newspapers have all been invited, and we are hoping for at least one of each, two would be nice.

Then, if that isn’t enough, that afternoon at 2:30 the TV program she taped with María Chuzema airs. Her plan is to be back home by then so she can watch it with her friends here at the marina where she lives.

Tomorrow is going to be a busy day and filled with lots of fun and hopefully book sales.

Now, if all that isn’t enough, yesterday my boss Joy got another really great review. This one is from Ron Magill. He’s the communication and media director for the Miami Metrozoo. He also does regular appearances on the TV show ‘Sábado Gigante’ on Univision. He’s their resident animal expert. He also appears on several other TV shows regularly. Here’s what he had to say about Zooprise Party / Fiesta Zoorpresa:

“Zooprise Party” is a wonderful children’s book that tells the story of an Okapi who believes that all of his animal friends at the zoo have forgotten his birthday. Author Rebekha Delgado and illustrator Joy Delgado use the story to subtly teach the reader some interesting facts about some unique animals. The best lesson of all for the children who will enjoy this book is that friends come in all shapes, colors, sizes, and backgrounds and that our friends represent some of the most important things in our lives.

Pretty nice I think. Well, I’d better get back to being a zebra. I’ll ‘see’ you all again on Thursday and let you know all about how everything went on Wednesday.

Another storm is coming!

Hello everyone out there in Bloggerville. Zebee here.

Billy the chimp is all excited about this storm that’s headed to our boss Joy’s home. I need to go over and talk to him about it, what to come along?

Zebee, I’m scared. This storm that’s coming, will it get us too?

No Billy. Let me explain what’s happening, okay?

I guess.

I have to say I’m glad we live in the ‘V Zoo’ and not with our boss Joy. See, she lives on a boat in the Caribbean. There are these big storms called hurricanes that can go by her boat this time of year. When that happens, she

Will it come here? That’s what I want to know!

No, as I was saying, she has to get her boat prepared for the storm. That means she has to take everything off the boat deck, or the top of the boat, and put it somewhere else. She and her husband move it all down inside the boat and then move the boat some place safe.

Yes, but will it come here?

No, Billy, it won’t come here. Anyway, after they move the boat some place safe, they go and stay on land. See it’s not safe to stay on the boat during a storm. Some people do, but not our boss Joy and her husband. They’ve been through lots of storms and know what to do.

When is the storm going to be there? Is it going to come here?

Billy, the storm is supposed to be at Joy’s on Wednesday, and, no, it’s not coming here. So, do you have a better understanding of what a hurricane is Billy?

Yes, but is it going to come here? That’s all I want to know.

No Billy, it’s not coming here. There’s Lito, I need to let him know that our boss Joy won’t be around because of the storm. Talk to you later Billy.

Mom, is the storm going to come here? What is a hurri . . .

Book Review: Frankie the walk ‘n roll dog

Hi everyone, Zebee here. Today is book review day and my boss Joy has a special book to share with you today. Here is a bit about the author:

Barbara Techel wrote a story about her dog, Frankie and what he has been through. She wrote it to “give hope and inspiration to all who face challenges. Barb writes a column “For the Love of Animals” has appeared in the Depot Dispatch. Her column shares stories of the daily antics and lives of her four-legged companion as well as other furry friends she has met.
Barb lives in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin with her loving husband John and her sweet critters. Barbara hope Frankie’s story will help anyone facing a challenge to realize they always have a choice as to how they will overcome a challenge and that hope is all you need to move forward.”

Now, onto the review (written by Joy Delgado):
******
Frankie the walk ‘n roll dog, what a trooper

“Hi, my name is Frankie! Welcome to my life.” is how Frankie the walk ‘n roll dog begins. Frankie starts her life like any other dog, running around, playful and happy. Adopted by a loving couple, she goes on bike rides to the market, plays with her dog sister and friends and sleeps in a cozy warm bed. She has a wonderful life. Then a tragic accident happens that makes poor Frankie paralyzed in her hind legs. Does she hide her tail between her legs and give up on life? No. She goes on to teach us all how to overcome obstacles and disabilities that get thrown at us.

Written from the point of view of Frankie, the author has done a very good job showing us what it’s like to be stricken with a disability later in life. The story walks you step by step through Frankie’s ordeal. The illustrations by Victoria Kay Lieffring depict the story with bold colors and make you ‘see’ what the story tells. The fears and frustrations little Frankie experiences are expressed in a way that children will be able to understand.

This charming story will be a wonderful addition to any child’s library.
